How one South Florida lab is setting the standard in cannabis testing

Back to blog

CBD and other cannabis-derived products are everywhere these days, as is media coverage of their potential health benefits.

As consumer awareness grows, so do the number of cannabis brands on the market. The global legal marijuana market size was estimated at $13.8 billion in 2018 and is projected to increase at a CAGR of 23.9% by 2025 (source). The hemp-derived CBD market alone is expected to reach $647 million by 2022 (source). In truth, the cannabis industry is moving faster than research and safety regulations can keep up, allowing manufacturers and distributors to market and sell ineffective, low quality and even unsafe products.

This non-regulated Wild West of the cannabis market illustrates the importance of third-party testing from reputable, accredited labs.

Recently, the Ideabar cannabis team got the chance to visit one such lab – Green Scientific Labs, located in Davie, Fla. During our tour, which was led by Chief Scientific Officer Dr. Andrew Hall, we were able to witness firsthand the passion and the unparalleled scientific rigor with which Green Scientific Labs tests the hemp and cannabis products they receive from clients.

Not only are they able to run full cannabinoid and terpene profiles, but they are fully equipped to test for heavy metals, pesticides, residual solvents, mycotoxins (toxic compounds produced by some types of molds) and other foreign materials.

Unfortunately, many companies with products on the market haven’t done any testing for safety and quality. There are also companies that send lower-quality products to less reputable, less diligent labs – labs that cut costs by using sub-par equipment, solvents and methodologies. These companies are still able to slap a certificate of analysis (COA) on their product and tout their third-party testing. It is important, therefore, for consumers to verify the lab which issued the COA, as well as the components that were tested for.

Green Scientific is fully ISO (International Organization for Standardization) accredited and rates highly for the competency of testing and calibration with ISO standards. They use cutting-edge, state-of-the-art equipment, which enables them to provide their clients with results they can rely on in the shortest turnaround time possible.

With their background in data and technology, this lab is uniquely positioned to deliver superior and consistent results, putting them lightyears ahead of other labs who are just now trying to break into the cannabis-testing world. Additionally, as this industry becomes better-regulated, and as legalization continues to grow, Green Scientific Labs will already be leading the standard of testing.

Ideabar’s cannabis team is also on the forefront of this industry, paving the way for cannabis and CBD marketing and research. Working with clients like Canopy Growth, the world-leading diversified cannabis, hemp and cannabis-device company, it is crucial to stay not only up to date, but ahead of the curve when looking into the ins and outs of this industry – so that we can better serve our cannabis clients.

As this category evolves, so should the essential partnerships that go with it. With labs like Green Scientific setting the standard for testing, and agencies like Ideabar setting the standard for marketing and research, other committed and innovative cannabis companies can rest assured that their products are in good hands.
